Where should you start? Right here. We've picked out a few of our favourite walks around Camberley, including family-friendly trails, mighty hikes and one accessible route. All laced up? Let's go.
Frith Hill Trail
Distance: 3.9km
Time: around an hour
Difficulty: easy
Let's start with one of the easiest walks in Camberley. This gentle trail takes you across the beautiful Frith Hill – a woodland-rich nature spot that stands proud between Frimley and Deepcut. You'll only need an hour to get from the starting point (near Tomlinscote Sports Centre) to Deepcut and back. However, with lovely forest views to enjoy and abundant wildlife to spot, those 60 minutes will be well worth the trudge.
Want to get the kids off their screens and out among nature? Good news: this walk is easy on little legs.
Frimley Trail
Distance: 10km
Time: 2 hours and 10 minutes
Difficulty: challenging
Most Camberley walks are fairly easy. As a rule, you need to head out of town to find harder hikes. This circular trail, however, is an exception. Even experienced walkers might find some sections tough going.
On the bright side, the route goes right past our hotel – and takes in some of the most beautiful scenery our locale can offer. Along the way, you'll trace the path of a canal, explore leafy woodlands and take a tranquil path between two mighty lakes. As you go, look out for Frimley Aqueduct – and don't forget to stop at Frimley Lodge Park for a refreshing cup of tea.
Hawley Park Farm Country Park Circular
Distance: 1.8km
Time: about half an hour
Difficulty: easy
Here's another gentle route that takes you on a loop around one of the most family-friendly places to walk near Camberley. We're talking, of course, about Hawley Park Farm – a lush, open meadow trimmed by trees and criss-crossed with flat gravelled footpaths.
It's easy going, even for kids. And if they do start to complain, you can stop for a spot of fun at the wooden play area. There are also plenty of picnic benches dotted around, as well as parking for around 15 vehicles. A nice walk for a spare afternoon, we think.
Blackwater Valley Path
Distance: 23 miles
Time: at least a full day's walking
Difficulty: challenging
On paper, the Blackwater Valley Path isn't too hard going. The route is mostly flat and is well-used by walkers and cyclists alike. It is, however, 23 miles long – so, unless you're a seasoned hiker, it's best tackled in sections.
We recommend section six. This 1.5-mile Camberley walk starts at the M3 bridge at the north edge of town and takes you along the river to Blackwater Park. You'll pass the pretty Hawley Meadows and cross Cove Brook (a slow-flowing river rich with aquatic plants) before reaching Blackwater. This was once a gas works, but is now a tranquil green space.
All in all, the section takes around 40 minutes to complete.
Frimley Lodge Park (accessible)
Frimley Lodge Park is a lovely family park that borders the southern bank of the Basingstoke Canal. Here, you'll find 94 hectares of open spaces, wildlife-rich woodland and fun things to do.
The park doesn't have a particular route mapped out for people with mobility difficulties. However, its footpaths – while uneven in places – are generally suitable for light wheelchairs. That makes it a great option if you're looking for accessible places to walk near Camberley (and fancy a bit of a wander).
Facilities are plentiful. The park has accessible WCs, wheelchair-friendly picnic benches and even a wheelchair-friendly swing. It also has four Blue Badge parking spaces.
